World Vision’s Uttarkannada ADP has been awarded the prestigious Kittur Rani Chennamma award by the State Government of Karnataka in recognition of their remarkable service rendered towards the development of women in Karnataka State.
Instituted by the State Government of Karnataka, Kittur Rani Chennamma State Award is presented on the occasion of Women’s Day every year.
ADP Uttarkannada has been working in 62 tribal villages in Uttarkannada and Dharwad districts focusing on health, education and agriculture. Uttarkannada ADP has been working to address malnutrition in the community and also responds effectively to HIV and AIDS.
The Government’s citation read, ‘This organization has embarked upon quite a good number of women welfare activities for the last 11 years and striving for the holistic development of 62 villages of 10 Gram Panchayats of Dharwad.’ It also appreciated the formation of Self Help Groups promoting self-reliance of women, assistance to schools and anganwadi and other activities related to access to clean water and sanitation.
Programme Manager, M. Matthew along with community representatives received this award from the former Chief Secretary of State Smt, Teresa Bhattacharya in the presence of Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Mr. Cyriac Joseph and other distinguished guests.
