Sasikala is a beautiful 15 year-old studying 10th grade. She is excited about her dreams for the future. And why not? She knows for sure that they will come true soon. 

But life did not always seem so hopeful. 

Sasikala was a healthy little girl until a sudden bout of fever struck her when she was about one year old. That body-twisting fever, polio, maimed her for life, affecting her spine from the back down to her legs. 

Rasu, her father, a fisherman, did all that he could to help the child. “Doctors gave up hope. I then dug a straight pit and kept her buried up to her shoulders for eight hours for one month, but saw no improvement” he laments.

Through proper counseling, Sasikala’s father has been made to understand her condition and provide the emotional support that she requires.

Today, there is a marked change in Rasu’s attitude. “I will educate her as much as she wants. Even if it means having to sell all my possessions, “ says Rasu, with determination. 

Had it not been for someone like you, children like Sasikala would never have had the privilege of studying in a good school, where they get the opportunity of education on par with other normal children and get appropriate medical benefits like correctional surgery, physiotherapy and access to government schemes of wheelchairs, calipers, etc. making life as close to normal as possible.
